DIVE WITH ODYSSEY ADVENTURES TO SEE THE GHOST FLEET OF TRUK LAGOON, THE WORLD’S BEST SHIPWRECK DESTINATION
ABOARD ODYSSEY YOU’LL HAVE THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME!
The Odyssey, a 132’ air-conditioned live-aboard vessel has spacious rooms, private ensuite facilities, and a large entertainment lounge. All meals and beverages are included and so is the nitrox. With small groups of only 16 guests, you’ll make friends quickly and forever.
About Chuuk
Also known as Truk, but was changed to it’s original name in 1986 when the Compact of Free Association went into effect. The compact is a political relationship with the United States that started in October, 1986.
Chuuk state consists of seven major island groups lying within the Eastern Caroline Islands, about 617 miles (1028 km) southeast of Guam and 3,262 miles (5,436 km) southwest of Hawaii. The total land mass of Chuuk state, including the outer islands, is approximately 77 square miles (128 km)
Odyssey's History
In May, 1999 Odyssey International, Inc., purchased the Marie-Anda from Blue Lagoon Cruises who is located in Lautoka, Fiji. The Marie-Anda was built in 1978 in Fiji for Blue Lagoon Cruises to be used as a small cruise ship which accommodated 40 passengers for 1-7 day cruises around the Yasawa Islands in Fiji.
In July, 1999, renovations began on the Marie-Anda transforming her into the breathtaking new Odyssey. The 20 cabins were removed and replaced with 9 very spacious staterooms and a comfortable entertainment lounge. The Odyssey is 132 feet long, with a 24 foot beam and draft of 6 feet, built entirely of steel.
Wreck History
WWII era was a difficult time for the residents of Chuuk. On February 17th & 18th, 1944, US forces attacked the Japanese-held islands of the lagoon, first knocking out air and communications facilities and then systematically sinking the many freighters in the lagoon. Some 30 years later, Blue Lagoon's founder and Diving Hall of Fame member Kimiuo Aisek discovered that these wrecks were covered in fantastic coral growth and were indeed sunken museums. Today they continue to amaze visiting divers.
A Typical Dive Day Aboard Odyssey
Since each day aboard Odyssey offers new adventures, no day is really typical. Nothing is routine and our schedule will vary depending on location.
The day aboard Odyssey begins after a 7:00 a.m. hot breakfast with your first dive briefing around 7:45. You will be able to do two dives before lunch. During lunch we usually move to a new site. After lunch you have the option to either do another dive, or relax on the either of the sundecks or in the privacy of your own stateroom. A late afternoon dive is also offered. Around 6:30 p.m. a sumptuous dinner will be waiting for you. After dinner you may choose to do a night dive. At night guests usually gather in the entertainment lounge to enjoy a movie, or review what was captured that day in video.
Since most of the dive sites in Truk Lagoon are fairly close to each other, it is easy for us to move around. The best part about diving aboard Odyssey is that we don't require everyone to dive at the same time. So it is not unusual for you and your buddy to be the only divers on a 500' wreck. For photographers, this offers more opportunities to shoot those popular scenes without having to wait for others to move out of the way.

This is the perfect option for surfers or divers looking for comfortable, modern accommodations with full amenities on a world class trip, or for couples seeking a unique, authentic experience in the Pacific Islands instead of another chain resort experience.
Mangrove Bay Hotel, Bar, Restaurant, and Marina is the #1 recommended accommodation provider in Pohnpei, Micronesia and your one-stop place for all your accommodation and tourist needs. We are a family of islanders dedicated to bringing our guests memorable experiences through island hospitality. Extending right out of a natural marsh of mangroves and into the ocean is a narrow strip of land that leads to what is now Mangrove Bay Hotel and Mangrove Bay Sushi Bar. The entire area, called Mangrove Bay, was a small project made possible through the vision of its owners, Kumer & Antonia Panuelo. They envisioned a small hotel business strongly rooted in idea of providing memorable experiences and simply the best that island hospitality can provide. Through their vision and the hard and tireless efforts of a group of local workers, the humble project became a success. This family-run business, affectionately referred to as a local gem, is highly frequented by both locals and tourists alike.
Ahnd Atoll will be the highlight of anyone’s trip to Pohnpei. The Atoll is located 10 miles offshore of Pohnpei (reef to reef from the south side of Pohnpei) or around 25 miles each way from our dock. A one-way trip usually takes around 1 hour, 20 minutes from our dock all the way to the beach at Ahnd (under good boating conditions). Ahnd Atoll is privately owned by the Nanpei Family Estate who manages and protects it. It is also a Unesco Marine Biosphere Reserve with many conservation zones.
A day trip to Ahnd Atoll for scuba diving, snorkeling, beach time goes a bit like this depending on the activity you want to do. Most trips leave around 8 am, and return around 5 pm. Most dives are done at the pass or on the backside of the atoll where conditions are calmer. Snorkeling can be done at the pass or reefs around the beach.
To visit the atoll you will need an entry permission from the Nanpei Estate, and we can arrange that for our guests. We can only visit the atoll with the permission of the owners and weather permitting. The weather we cannot change! To visit the atoll we need light winds for the 10 mile ocean crossing.
“Nan Madol” is a prehistoric ‘city’ of more than ninety man-made islets off the coast of Temwen Island, constructed of naturally-occurring prismatic basalt columns, basalt boulders, and coral fill. Many of the islets have large, complicated structures on them composed of the same types of rock — stones as heavy as 90 tons. Together, the islets formed a powerful administrative and religious complex from which the island of Pohnpei was ruled for several hundred years by a line of tyrannical monarchs called Saudeleurs. The lower city, Madol Pah, was the administrative center, while the upper city, Madol Powe, was the ceremonial heart of the complex.
Megalithic sites like Nan Madol are rare around the world and even rarer in the Pacific. Anyone who has seen the city would place it alongside other more famous megalithic feats such as the pyramids of Egypt and Central America, Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, and Rapa Nui’s moai. And yet, Nan Madol is little-known outside the archaeological community and visited by a surprisingly small number of people each year. Nan Madol was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2016.”

So that we can help protect our reefs, we encourage our guests to choose and use a sunscreen that is “coral safe”.
