Explore La Paz + Sea of Cortez – Mobula Rays + More: May 6-13, 2023

Description

Sea of Cortez – Aquarium of the World

Some have called the Sea of Cortez the “Aquarium of the World”. No matter a title, every year, tens of thousands of Mobula Rays visit the coastlines of the Sea of Cortez in Mexico’s Baja California peninsula – please watch the video. The congregations of rays are one of the most incredible natural spectacles on our planet — and one of the largest in the world.

For the adventurer, scuba diver, or ocean lover, this region of the Baja Peninsula is one of the most inviting places in North America. This will be more than a dive trip. In fact, this is not a dive trip, but we’ll likely make 1-2 dives, and those dives will be at Los Islotes with the sea lion colony. But, we’ll be on the water at least 5 days, looking for anything that will share the ocean with us. It could be dolphins, sea lions, manta rays, whale sharks, or humpback whales. It could even be a blue whale.

But, the reason we’re going, is to swim with the Mobula Rays. Yes, this is a snorkel trip. And, let’s make no secret about our intentions – where there are mobula rays, there are very likely Orcas that are hunting the rays. Our chance to swim with mobula rays is very good since this is their season, and we will pay for a spotter plane (to increase our chances) for a few of this days.
